Right now the town of Bovec is recovering, having been the venue for Warwick University Canoe Club summer tour.

We arrived on the 2nd of July to a massive rain storm that didn’t stop for about 3 days. This did mean that the water levels were up and at a most enjoyable level, but it wasn’t the sunny skies the guidebook had predicated. The apartment was located a short walking distance from the centre of Bovec.

The water is fantastic, lovely continuous rivers that are never over the grade given on the guide sheet that comes with the river permits.

My personal favourite section was running the Koritnica, a short trib of the Soca. I ran it a total of 3 times, all in completely different levels and each time a complete blast.

The Section from Zmobuca to Cezoca

In the 10 days we were there, we paddled most of the Soca and it was amazing – I would highly recommend the river as a destination for a first Alps trip!

I’m currently in London, waiting for a plane to Uganda and the count down for Tibet has started!
